With the Internet becoming an effective tool of election campaign, Congress today claimed its website got more hits one day before polling in the three phases of elections so far than that of BJP's prime ministerial candidate L K Advani.
"Each time we would be closer to a date of polling, the interest in Congress website would go up and the interest in Advani and BJP website would go down and one day before the date of polling, Congress website would overtake the Advani and BJP websites by huge margins," AICC computer cell chairman Vishvjit P Singh said.
Singh said the voter is seeking information about the Congress immediately prior to casting of votes and "conversely loses interest in Advani and BJP on the eve of casting of votes".
Giving the daily traffic rank trend from the website monitoring site Alexa, Singh claimed that on April 15, April 22 and April 29 (one day before the polls in the first three phases), the Congress website took over the Advani and BJP websites by a huge margin.
He said the Advani website had a tie-up with Google for more hits. "Placing multiple advertisements on the Internet portals and paying for each click (for each visitor who visits Advani or BJP site) can only ensure that a large number of visitors visit the site but cannot ensure their loyalty," Singh added.
