The opposition Congress on Monday lambasted the Naveen Patnaik-led government in the Orissa assembly over the Kalinga Nagar issue demanding resignation of the Chief Minister saying he had "no moral right to continue in office".
Initiating the debate on the issue, Congress Deputy Leader Narasingha Mishra said the Chief Minister had failed to visit the troubled industrial hub till now and had no moral right to continue.
Not a single minister had gone there so far, he said.
Pointing out that the BJD did not command majority in the House and was running the government in coalition with the BJP, Mishra said several BJP tribal MLAs had demanded that their party should withdraw support to the government.
State BJP President Jual Oram had also alleged that the government had betrayed the tribals, he said.
"It is an indication of lack of confidence in you", the Congress leader told the Chief Minister.
Earlier in the day, Mishra demanded that the question hour should be dispensed off and the motion for discussion on Kalinga Nagar incident moved by the Congress taken up first.
The debate on the motion of thanks on the Governor's address could be taken up later, he argued even as the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik stood up to say his government was prepared for a discussion on Kalinga Nagar and was willing that the Question Hour should be suspended for the purpose.
