THE CONGRESS on Friday said it was contemplating moving court against the State Government’s order lifting ban on its employees to participate in RSS activities.
Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Jamuna Devi, after presenting a memorandum to Governor Dr Balram Jakhar, said that legal opinion was being sought on the order and it might be challenged in the court of law.
Former minister and Congress MLA Ajay Singh said that the order could be challenged in court after due deliberations with legal experts. He warned the RSS to stop ‘meddling’ in the affairs of the Government and challenged it to openly join politics.
In the memorandum to the Governor, Jamuna Devi said “The Government’s step is against the spirit of the Constitution. Obedience of such an order could imperil the State’s law and order situation.
It is generating apprehension in a secular community and politicising officials. The order will vitiate communal harmony and endanger the social fabric,” she said while urging him to act on the issue.
The memorandum said that the ban had been imposed so that officials impartially fulfilled responsibilities according to rules keeping within Constitutional limits.
Denouncing the order in the centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi’s South Africa satyagraha, the Congress leader said no other state had lifted the ban.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Digvijay Singh said that such a step in the centenary year of Gandhiji’s Satyagrah is BJP’s ‘tribute’ to persons pursuing ideology, which killed Mahatma Gandhi.
He said that lifting of ban would, however give a chance to the Congress to identify government servants aligned to the RSS and deal with them suitable when the party came to power in the State.
