Party spokesman Akhilesh Pratap Singh said that Gita Singh’s charges against the senior IPS officer were serious and had exposed the law and order situation in the State. Akhilesh said apprehensions expressed by Gita Singh against the police should be probed and an FIR should be lodged against the ADG.
Gita Singh, who is also a Samajwadi Party MLA from Balampur, told the media on Saturday that ADG PAC Bua Singh had hatched a conspiracy to eliminate her in Gonda.

Akhilesh said it was quite strange that the DGP’s wife was not safe in the State. The spokesman said if Gita Singh asked the Centre for her protection, the State Congress could also appeal to the Congress-led UPA government in this connection.

These MLAs had earlier expressed fears about attacks on them, but the government did not take any security measures, he said, adding that in the prevailing situation, Gita Singh should approach the Centre for security and should lodge an FIR at Gonda.

Singh said DGP Yashpal Singh’s claim about achievements during 2005 had become meaningless, as his wife had come out against a senior police officer, amply indicating the situation in the State. The Congress had also asked the State Home department to reveal steps taken after the charges made by Gita Singh. He said political interference in the appointment of the DGP and other senior police officers had assumed serious dimensions.
