Senior Congress leader Balasaheb Deshmukh, popularly known as 'Bhau', died in Nashik on Sunday after a prolonged illness, family sources said.

He was 96 and is survived by two daughters and a son.

Deshmukh, the first president of Nasik road-Devlali Municipal Council, had been an MLA in 1967-72 and also enjoyed a term in Rajya Sabha during 1984-90.
Born on August 29, 1913, Deshmukh graduated in Arts and Law. His mortal remains were cremated at Nashik Road in Nashi.
