Describing Nehru as an iconic and a highly revered freedom fighter, party spokesperson Jayanti Natrajan told reporters, "the attempt by the BJP government to remove his name from primary school text is not only bound to fail but is also nothing more than an attempt to politicise and distort Indian history".

"We call upon the Madhya Pradesh government to drop the attempt and not make no further attempts to rewrite history", she said.

Asked about the Left party's opposition to the disinvestments of NALCO and NLC, as proposed by the Cabinet, she said, "any differences of opinion will be sorted out at the UPA-Left Coordination Committee meeting. We are committed not to privatise the Navratnas."

Rejecting rebel MP Kuldip Vishnoi's charge of corruption in the Reliance Special Economic Zone in Haryana, she said the state government's decision was in the best interest of the state.

The spokesperson also claimed that the government had moved fast and very quickly to arrest the rising prices.
