Congress accuses Kejriwal of keeping govt funds of Rs. 9 lakhs with himself

Seeking to hit at Aam Aadmi Party's probity plank, Congress today alleged its founder Arvind Kejriwal had attempted to keep with himself government funds to the tune of Rs. 9 lakhs.

"Aam Aadmi Party may perhaps be the first party whose founder was accused of trying to retain government funds to the tune of Rs 9 lakhs," Congress general secretary Shakeel Ahmed told reporters.

Ahmed, who is in charge of party affairs in Delhi, said Kejriwal was forced to deposit the money with the government, which he did under protest by sending a cheque to the Prime Minister's Office.

The Congress leader said Kejriwal, a former income tax official who has been campaigning for non-payment of electricity bills by the people, sent the cheque to the PMO when he was claiming that it was not government money. "It means he was trying to hoodwink the people".

Accusing AAP of joining hands with BJP, he said Kejriwal's party was working in tandem with the opposition party. While Kejriwal is contesting against chief minister Shiela Dikshit, it has withdrawn its candidate against BJP CM candidate Harsh Vardhan.
