The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) on Tuesday blamed Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav for prevailing state of affairs on law and order front and urged Governor TV Rajeswar to ask the Samajwadi Party led government to recommend a CBI inquiry to probe into incident of rape of two girl inmates of a Madarsa under Kareli police station area of Allahabad.
A Congress delegation led by the UPCC President Salman Khurshid and the Congress Legislature Party leader Pramod Tiwari went to Raj Bhawan this evening and demanded that the Governor should use his good offices to direct Mulayam government to recommend a CBI probe.
There was a complete breakdown of Constitutional machinery and the law and order was at lowest ebb in the state, said Khurshid and Tiwari after submitting a memorandum to Governor at Raj Bhawan here this evening. The Congress leaders demanded that the State Government should provide security to the two girls and an economic assistance of Rs 5 lakh be given to the victims.
Action should also be taken against the policemen who tried to destroy evidence and help accused of the case, said Congress delegation adding no medical examination of the girls was conducted and no FIR was lodged of the incident.
