If Congress leaders are to be believed the next “Nav Nirman” rally may be held in four to five weeks with more rallies being proposed in all the remaining zones of the party organisation. Eight organisational zones have been created for the purpose of revamping the Congress in UP. Congress president Sonia Gandhi along with Rahul Gandhi may hold a review meeting in next few days before clearing the programme for the next “Nav Nirman” rally.

Sources said the next rally of Bareilly-Moradabad zone is being proposed in September. Senior Congress leaders have already begun preparations for the same. An organisational committee would be formed once the dates for the rally were cleared, said the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) organisation incharge Satyadev Tripathi.

Meanwhile, the mood is upbeat in the Congress following Rahul Gandhi’s decision to move out of twin constituencies of Rae Bareli and Amethi and take interest in the state party’s affairs. “Rahul Gandhi has begun taking an active interest in the UP’s affairs,” said a party functionary. Sonia Gandhi was holding review meetings of the party’s zonal incharges on a regular basis. There are indications that such review meetings would be held twice every month, he said adding the Congress’ stepped up offensive against Mulayam government was evoking encouraging response from people.

Significantly, this is for the first time in recent years that the Congress has begun shortlisting candidates for the coming Vidhan Sabha elections. UPCC president Salman Khurshid has already announced that the panel of candidates for 200 seats had been already finalised. At the same time, zonal incharges are also expected to submit their panel within this month, said a senior party leader who also happens to be incharge of a party zone.
