SADBHAWANA RALLIES, seminars and cultural programmes were organised here on Sunday to mark the 62nd birth anniversary of the late Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India.
Members of the backward cell of the party took out a rally that passed through various routes and converted into a meeting at the Town Hall.
Addressing party members, a young Congress leader Siddharth Priya Srivastav said that Rajiv Gandhi was in favour of decentralisation of power. He laid the foundation for information revolution and designed the national education policy. Besides, he ensured right to voting to those who have completed 18 years and provided constitutional status to the Panchayati Raj system.
Siddharth urged the youths to follow the ideals of Rajiv Gandhi. Party leader Surendra Singh Munna, Jeevan Prakash, Aslam Khan also paid tributes to the late Prime Minister.
Members of the UP Women Congress Committee distributed fruits to the patients at the district hospital. At another programme organised at the party office, district Congress president Sanjiv Kumar Singh said that caste and communal politics in the State had adversely affected the development projects.
He called upon the youths to retain the lost ground of the party in UP. Members of the All India Congress Committee Syed Jamal, Laxmichand Sinhania, RD Chaturvedi and others said that the people of the State were up to the Congress to get rid of the misrule of the SP-led government.

Speaking on the occasion, city unit president of the party Chaudhary Irshad Husain said that Rajiv Gandhi had sacrificed his life for communal harmony and national integration. Party leader Bhupendra Narain Pathak, Diwaker Singh and CP Jaiswal urged the party workers to strengthen the Congress in UP.
