With a mass exodus of leaders in Seemandhra, the Congress is struggling to find candidates for the Lok Sabha and assembly polls, following its decision to create Telangana which will come into existence on June 2.

With the last assembly and LS elections in united Andhra Pradesh scheduled for April 30 and May 7, the party hasn’t named a single candidate yet either from Seemandhra or Telangana.

Seemandhra has 25 Lok Sabha seats compared to 17 in Telangana. Similarly, the residual state has 175 assembly constituencies and Telangana 119.

In the residual state of Andhra, most sitting MPs and MLAs – besides a large number of senior leaders – have joined either the YSR Congress or the TDP.

“In Seemandhra, Congress leaders are deserting us to escape the wrath of voters,” said a party functionary.
