The Congress on Wednesday said that it has taken cognizance of the statement made by Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit during a rally in Rewari on Monday and it will seek an explanation from him.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and in-charge of party affairs in Haryana Shakeel Ahmed said that party will ask the MP to explain his position. Till now, nothing in written has been received from Inderjit.
Shakeel said that Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Phool Chand Mullana has submitted a report in this matter on Wednesday.
He said he will read the report and then apprise the party high command. “It is a serious matter. I will apprise the high command on the issue only after going through the report myself. Congress is a 128-year-old party and it will not like any of its workers to leave, but if anyone has made up his mind, nothing can be done,’’ he said referring to Rao Inderjit.
Shakeel, who was on his way to Mewat to address a party workers meeting, refused to divulge details of the report. “I was asked to prepare a report on his statement made during the Rewari rally. I am not authorised to take action any against him as he is an MP. The final decision on an action against him will be taken by the higher command,” Mullana said.

On September 23 at Rewari, Rao Inderjit had told a gathering that he would not contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls on a Congress ticket. “I quit the Congress today,’’ he had said during the Shaheedi Samman Diwas to commemorate the martyrdom day of Rao Tula Ram.
Rao Inderjit Singh was recently in the limelight for demanding a probe into land deals of Robert Vadra. Addressing the rally, the member of Lok Sabha from Gurgaon had said he would not contest the next elections from Congress as he was upset with the “existing circumstances” in the party.
On the other hand , Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that Rao Inderjit Singh would repent his decision to quit the Congress. In a statement, the chief minister said, “He is a friend. I have always helped him. We have been together for a long time.”
However, Rao Inderjit, on being asked about his decision to resign from the Congress, told HT that he would decide the further step at his own convenience. “I cannot be steered by anyone. I had announced publicly that I will not contest the next elections on a Congress ticket,’’ said the MP.
