The Congress has written to the Delhi Electoral Office, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misleading Delhiites by showing prices of onions and tomatoes to be Rs. 100 and Rs. 80, respectively, through hoardings.
In a letter to the Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer, the Congress has claimed that various hoardings and neon signs, fixed by the BJP at prominent places of the city, showing prices of onions and tomato are “totally misleading”. The letter says the prices of onions have been shown as Rs. 100 per kg and that of tomatoes as Rs. 80 per kg.
“Prices of onions have come down considerably after the Delhi government started selling the kitchen staple at cheaper rates after permission was granted by the Election Commission,” the letter says.
According to Congress, the prices of onion range between Rs. 25 and Rs. 50 per kg and that of tomato between Rs. 25 and Rs. 48 per kg in Delhi. “The continuance of such boards and hoardings in different parts of Delhi is a deliberate mischief to malign the Congress,” the letter said.
It claimed that such boards and hoardings would even provoke black marketeers to indulge in hoarding of essential commodities.

{{/usCountry}}The party requested the electoral officer to direct the BJP to remove all such boards and hoardings immediately.
“We have just received the complaint and it will be examined tomorrow,” said Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Dev.
Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel said: “These are the actual prices at which onion and tomatoes were being sold. We have just highlighted the real picture.”
