The Ghaziabad police on Friday disclosed the connivance of four UP police personnel in carrying out arrests to shield murder conspirators.
In a case that bares the growing nexus between the police and criminals, Muharram, a disgruntled contractor at Sahibabad’s Modern Industries hired two sharpshooters to get rid of Shyam Bahadur Giri of the same company who was instrumental in the sacking of Muharram recently.
On August 4, Giri and his colleague, Ashirwad Singh, were passing through Link Road area near Mohan Nagar, when in a case of mistaken identity Singh was shot dead by unidentified assailants.
An attempt had been made on Giri’s life earlier too.
To cover up their involvement in the murder, Muharram and his accomplice Yusuf got themselves arrested at Kairana police station at Muzaffarnagar on June 19 and July 31, on charges of possessing illicit liquor. Investigations revealed around Rs 51,000 was paid to the four personnel posted at Kairana.
