Eyewitnesses to the fatal accident between the Audi A6 and Hyundai i10 on Friday afternoon on Golf Course Extension Road claimed that accused Sanjiv Mittal and his family were present at the accident spot when police arrived there the day of the tragedy.

The family of Avinash Chandra Shah — who died in the accident — alleged police let off Mittal and he was arrested the next day giving him ample time to plan an easy bail route.
Police maintained, the accused had fled the spot and it was only a day later that they got to know his identity.
Forty seven-year old merchant navy engineer Avinash Chandra Shah was killed when the Audi allegedly being driven by IT-firm owner Sanjiv Mittal hit his Hyundai i10.
Kamal, the wife of the engineer, was sitting next to him while their daughter was in the rear seat. Kamal was grievously injured and is battling for her life, while the daughter escaped with minor injuries.
Sanjay Kumar Singh, the owner of a tea kiosk who saw the accident and was also instrumental in retrieving Shah's body from the mangled car, said: “The Audi driver and two daughters stayed back at the accident site till police reached there. The girls were terrorized and crying while the driver was calm."
Singh also said the Hyundai i10 had toppled thrice and turned turtle. “We put the car in its correct position.”
Another witness who preferred to be anonymous also said the Audi driver did not flee the spot and remained there till the police arrived.
Raj Agarwal, a cousin of Avinash Shah, said police officials who were investigating the case did not disclose the identity of the accused till afternoon the next day.
“Despite the fact that police knew who hit the car, they did not disclose the name of the driver. The police offered the accused ample time to flee and arrange for his release. He was symbolically arrested on Saturday afternoon and released on bail within couple of hours,” he said.
However, the investigating officer Rani Devi and SHO Rajeev Kumar said Mittal was not present on the spot.
“We were busy the first 2-3 hours retrieving the body of Shah. The Audi showroom also was closed in the evening so we could not get information of the person who driving the car. It was only the next day when the showroom opened, we got the identity and address of Mittal,” Rani Devi said.
