EVEN AS hapless parents of Ashiana rape victim are planning to knock SC doors, senior police officials are still making all efforts to shield the main accused.
SP (East) Rakesh Pradhan called up the victim’s father to record his statement about threats issued to them a few days back. Pradhan was supposed to inquire the victim’s father about the money allegedly offered by member of Shakti Vahini Deepa Bhatt recently. But, the official ignored the significant aspect conspicuously and preferred keeping mum over the issue even the victim’s father himself spoke in this connection before the official.
When inquired by the HT Lucknow Live, Pradhan said he had called up the man to ask him about the threats issued to him. When asked if he (the official) had inquired the aggrieved man regarding the money offered to him by Bhatt, Pradhan replied that the man did not admit about any such allegation.
On the other hand, Madhu Garg, office- bearer of AIDWA, alleged that the girl’s father told them that he had narrated the entire episode to Pradhan about Deepa Bhatt’s offer and the threats issued by the unidentified persons. Talking to HT Lucknow Live, Garg said they had written complaints, stating the allegations related to the threats and the offer.
She further said they would produce the girl’s father before the DGP on Wednesday, as they were not getting any help from the Lucknow police.
The complaints stated that Deepa Bhatt had visited the rape victim’s house a few weeks back and lured her parents to withdraw the case against one of the accused Gaurav Shukla only. Bhatt allegedly had offered Rs 50,000 to the poor couple for the cause.

Bhatt said that Gaurav’s family would help initiating stern legal battle against other accused if the victim denied Gaurav’s role in the incident. Gaurav is nephew of don-turned ex-Samajwadi Party MLC Arun Shanker Shukla ‘Anna’.
Madhu Garg alleged that Deepa Bhatt had taken thumb impressions of victim’s father on blank papers when she visited the house.
After Deepa’s visit, unidentified goons issued life threats to harried family as the latter turned down Deepa’s offer. Two armed constables were deputed at the victim’s house since then that too merely after intervention of CO Sarojininagar Mahendra Yadav.
