A corporator from Chembur allegedly adopted a fake father to contest the elections from a seat reserved for OBC candidates.

The Mulund tehsildar has registered a complaint with the Chembur police against corporator Anjum Fatima Aslam Sheikh (35) for submitting fake documents and claiming to be the daughter of Mohammed Ansari (65) to contest the February 2007 elections from Shivaji Nagar.

Fatima contested on a Samajwadi Party ticket but joined the Congress three days after becoming a corporator. Yassuddin Sheikh, a Samajwadi Party leader from Trombay, registered a complaint with the scrutiny committee. The tehsildar found that Fatima’s claims were bogus and informed the police.

When Fatima approached the high court contesting the case, the court ordered a DNA test.

The Chembur police on Monday arrested Ansari and his son, Azzizu Rehaman as the duo, along with Fatima, was leaving JJ Hospital after taking the DNA test. They were held on charges of cheating, dishonesty and forgery. Fatima, however, managed to flee.

The DNA test results are still awaited.
