According to the police, the department would provide round-the-clock security to the couple — Vikram Singh, 32, and Babita Sharma, 20 — at a nominal expense.

The couple is putting up at a government-run shelter in the city. They got married on November 30 at Arya Samaj Mandir in Delhi .

Vikram works as a fire officer in a city mall while his wife works with an automobile company.

Although both husband and wife belong to the same caste, Babita’s family was against the marriage and even threatened Vikram. “They threatened me that if I met her, I would be killed.

Durgesh Boken, their counsel, said, “The couple has been sent to the shelter for runaway couples till January 9. A gunman would take care of their security. Parents cannot force them to stay apart.”
