Both Telgi and Shahida, also an accused, are HIV positive and their health condition is precarious besides they suffer from many other serious ailments, their lawyer Milind Pawar said in the two applications filed in Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court.

The applications prayed that Abdul Karim Telgi be shifted to a private hospital for treatment and his wife to Bangalore Central Jail.

The application filed on behalf of the prime accused said that he has been in the Bangalore and Pune's Central jail for over three years ever since his arrest in the fake stamp case.

Within the last six months, Telgi had to be admitted six to seven times in the government-run Sassoon General Hospital after his health condition deteriorated, the applications said.

It sought a direction to the authorities concerned to shift him to a private hospital at the government's cost.
