The Bombay High Court has called state’s Director General of Police (DGP), and the chief secretary for a discussing the issue of missing children.
The division bench of Justices Bilal Nazki and A.R. Joshi on Thursday have directed additional public prosecutor K.V. Saste to inform DGP S.S. Virk and Chief Secretary Johny Joseph to fix a meeting in the next 10 days.
The high court was hearing two habeas corpus petitions filed by Mohan and Mohini Nerurkar, the couple whose 4-day-old boy was stolen from Sion Hospital on January 1 and a plea filed by Ranjana Pawar, a Dombivli-based widow.
In a letter submitted to HC, the DGP’s office informed the court that as per June 30, 16,883 people have gone missing from the state. Of these over 3,500 are from Mumbai.
