Magistrate Unnikrishnan Nair of Karungapally court "returned" the petition on the ground that the matter did not come under the jurisdiction of his court.

In his petition, Muhammad questioned the investigators' contention that statements given by him to police was part of the basis for chargesheeting Madani and said he did not give any statement to the police based on which his brother could be made an accused. He also wanted the court to scrap the chargesheet.

Madani told reporters that he would wage a legal battle to prove his innocence and expose "the conspiracy" against him.

He later underwent a thorough check-up a private hospital for chest congestion and symptoms of pneumonia.

Meanwhile, the PDP leaders said the ongoing agitation against chargesheeting of Madani would be stepped up.
