A local court on Sunday rejected a petition charging Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi with making derogatory remarks against Jawaharlal Nehru, the country's first prime minister, on grounds of jurisdiction.
Charmesh Sharma, a Youth Congress state secretary, had filed the case on July 3 against Modi for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Nehru at a public meeting of the BJP at Gandhinagar in Gujarat on June 5.
Sharma said in the petition that he and other admirers of Nehru were "deeply hurt and pained" by Modi's comments, which he had heard on a private television channel and read on a website.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Braj Bhushan Gupta rejected the petition, saying the court did not have the jurisdiction to hear the plea.
However, Sharma said he would move district and sessions court against the order.
After hearing the arguments, the court had on August 4 reserved its order in the case.
