Adjacent to Sector 10 are five dairies, 200 cattle and endless piles of cow dung — a reason enough for the residents to walk with a handkerchief on the noses whenever they step out of the house.
Though the dairies are doing brisk business, they have left the residents devoid of even fresh air. Residents say they can’t even open the windows due to the stink.
“You can’t even go out for a morning walk as you cannot inhale fresh air. It is polluted by people cooking in the open or cow dung. It is an open invitation to diseases, but there is nobody to look into our plight,” said Manik Sharma, a resident.
The Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) administrator had visited the area in January, but that didn’t change things either. There are five dairies at Kadhipur village, adjoining Sector 10. “Since it is a village area, we can’t do anything in this regard. We are talking to residents and they have agreed to shift the dairies,” said Jaswant Singh, junior engineer, Huda.
With a population of over is 10,000, the other major problems are encroachments, faulty streetlights and erratic power supply. Residents say because of cow dung, the sewers remain blocked and they are compelled to shell extra money to get them cleaned.
