Alleging that the Dalits were facing discrimination in different parts of the state including denial of access to temples,CPI-M affiliated Tamil Nadu 'Theendamai Ozhippu Munnani' (Untouchability Eradication Front) on Friday announced organising more temple entry protests.
State convener of the Front, P Sampath, told reporters here that social evils such as denial of entry for Dalits into temples, presence of two tumbler system and lack of proper graveyard facilities still continued to haunt them.
"While it is with the government to strictly ensure that the Dalits are not deprived of this basic right, in many cases, it does not come to their rescue and the police also sides with the upper caste. We are planning to organise more temple entry protests," he said.
He said Rs 12,000 crore allotted for Dalits welfare in Tamil Nadu in the last ten years had not been utilised properly and the DMK and AIADMK, during their rule, had not given adequate attention for Dalits' welfare.
The Front would take out a rally on October 27 here pressing various demands. CPIM state secretary N Varadarajan, among others, is scheduled to participate.
