CPI (ML) asks govt to clarify stand on quota

THE CPI (ML) has asked the government to clear its stand on reservation for OBCs and SC/STs, who constitute 70 per cent of the country?s population. Party secretary Ashish Mittal said the government should raise the number of seats in government medical colleges and close down all private medical colleges. More government medical colleges should be established, he said.

The party has also demanded an increase in seats in Allahabad University to admit all applicants above the cut-off mark at the graduate level.

He condemned the Congress for fanning the flames of the reservation movement in the country.

Mittal said by not clearly enunciating its policy on the reservation question and permitting its leaders to make statements on both sides, it was deliberately trying to create a caste divide in country in order to cover up the disastrous impact of its pro-MNC, pro-landlord policies. He said while the HRD Minister had spoken for reservation, Congress MP Kapil Sibal stoked the anti-reservation fire amongst medicos by stating that it compromised merit. Then, Rahul Gandhi stated there was justification on both sides. It was followed by Congress-appointed knowledge commission’ members saying that growth of knowledge would be compromised.
