Criminal gang busted in Jharkhand

With the arrest of seven persons from West Singhbhum district, the police today claimed to have busted a criminal gang engaged in extorting money from people in the name of an ultra group.

With the arrest of seven persons from West Singhbhum district, the police today claimed to have busted a criminal gang engaged in extorting money from people in the name of an ultra group.

The arrested persons had unleased a reign of terror in mineral-rich Badajamda and issued letters to mine and crusher owners demanding lakhs of rupees, Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Kumar Jha told a press conference.

Jha said the gang was operating under the banner of 'Jan Soshan Mukti Andolan' and issued the letters in its letter-head.

They were all wanted by the police in various criminal activities including loot, murder and dacoity, he said adding that the criminal gang collected levy in the name of Jharkhand Liberation Tiger, an ultra outfit.

Six country-made pistols, 12 live cartridges, two empty cartridges, three motorcycles and five mobile phones have been seized from the possession, Jha added.

Acting on a tip-off, he said the district police conducted raid and arrested six members of the gang from a spot in Chakradharpur.
