The CVC sought details "vide its letter dated September 25, 2006," he said in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha.

Ramadoss, however, did not give details of complaints or his ministry's response. "An interim reply has been sent to the CVC by his ministry on November 27, 2006," he said.

To another question, the Minister said Integrated Disease Surveillance Project, launched in November 2004, will be implemented across the country in three phases. At present, 23 states of Phase-I and Phase-II are in various stages of implementation.

The project involves integrating disease surveillance at state and district level. "When IDSP is fully implemented, it would be expected to detect early warning signals of impending outbreaks and help initiate effective and timely response," he said.

He, however, said IDSP surveillance mechanism had not been used for recent outbreaks of Dengue and Chikungunya.
