THE SPURT in dacoities has awakened citizens towards the risk to personal security and high-tech security gadgets are suddenly in vogue in the State capital.
Equipments ranging from sensors, hooters and video door phones that check any intrusion or human activity outside the house are getting a good response in the market from citizens who are suddenly conscious of the security risk.
Besides, there are complete security systems where the house is constantly under vigilance by dedicated persons sitting on their computer in a faraway place who will call up 10 phone numbers including neighbours and police in case of an intrusion. There are also sirens that begin to ring following any human intrusion, especial if dacoits cut telephone lines before entering the house.
“For Central Monitoring Service one has to pay the cost of equipments apart from a monthly/annual fee,” says Rensi Thomas of Thomson Solutions (Sonagiri) that deals in products of Zicom, a security company. “The products range from Rs 7,000 to Rs 24,000,” says Thomas. “Queries are up exponentially and sales have also doubled since the dacoities,” he adds.
KC Chakraborty, who runs Jyoti Communications in MP Nagar, brings security gadgets from Delhi. He says the door phone/door lock is priced at Rs 4,500 while in the higher range door camera call bell comes at Rs 12,500.

{{/usCountry}}“Our house is in the final stages of construction and due to the current spate of dacoities, we are talking to the various agencies in order to install a reliable security system,” said Abdul Mughees, a resident of TT Nagar.
Shrikant Mishra, a resident of Priyadarshini Colony, is also planning the same at his house located in the outskirts of the Capital. The recent dacoity in Vidya Nagar prompted him to seriously think about such an arrangement.
