According to the prosecution, on the morning of September 30 last, jail inmate Madhu Kori stabbed co-inmate Bhoone Raja in a group clash in Sagar central jail with a sharp-edged teaspoon.

The cause of the dispute was collection of money and the infighting among the inmates. A magisterial inquiry was instituted into the case.

Kori was awarded death sentence while Saeed and Raees were given life terms. Raja was serving life term. He was a resident of Chhatarpur district and had killed a police sub-inspector posted in Chaanbeela police station of Sagar district.

Public prosecutor Rajesh Trivedi said Raja received injuries on his ribs, chest and stomach. The Gopalganj police had filed a case under sections 302, 303 and 120 of the Indian Penal Code

(IPC) against the three culprits. Collector S S Shukla had ordered a magisterial inquiry which was conducted by the then City magistrate Pramod Shukla into the incident in the jail.
