Floods ravage India with unerring regularity, 2014 is no different.
Recent floods in Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Assam affected thousands of villages and claimed nearly 100 lives. A look at government data shows floods affected around 32 million Indians every year from 1953 to 2011. In the same 58-year span, the floods also caused annual damage of Rs 3,609 crore on an average.
HT takes a close look at the threat, which has again reared its head in Assam and Bihar. According to current flood forecasts, Chenimari and Dhubri in Assam and Jhanjharpur in Bihar have a looming flood threat.
