To strike a chord with a large number of people living in the villages of Delhi ahead of the Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata party has begun organising public meetings in the rural parts of the city.
Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel led ‘Gaon-Gaon Sampark’ Yatra in Bapraula, Bakkarwala, Kotla, Ranhaula, Burela and Hastsal on Saturday. Goel said he met scores of people, listened to their problems caused by the neglect of the Delhi government and suggested solutions.
“I have assured them that their grievances will be addressed as soon as the BJP comes to power in Delhi after the Assembly elections,” Goel said.
He added that more than 360 villages in Delhi bear the stamp of stark neglect of the Delhi government, which has resulted in the lack of development in these areas. The Lal Dora, which demarcates the boundary of the village areas, has not been extended for several years, he said.
“There are no proper roads, sewers are either absent or defunct and drinking water’s availability is poor. Erratic power supply only compounds the problems of the people in these villages. The BJP will make plans for the all-round development of the villages of Delhi,” Goel added.
During his yatra, Goel announced that trade licenses in the south, east and north Delhi municipal corporation areas were being abolished. The BJP president said that instead of trade licences, traders would now fill up a trader information form supported by an affidavit once in five years.
