A chance discovery by their counterparts in Haryana helped the Delhi Police rescue the 11-year-old son of a senior government official, who was allegedly kidnapped from outside his Chirag Dilli residence on Tuesday.
The Jhajjar Police rescued the victim, Aashish, from a dry well in Jehangirabad village on a tip off.
One of the villagers had seen some men taking Aashish towards the well on the outskirts of the village. The villager informed the local police about it who rescued Aashish. The kidnappers, however, managed to escape by the time the policemen reached.
Aashish, a Class 6 student of a prominent school in south Delhi, was out to distribute "prasad" when he was kidnapped. Aashish father lodged a missing person's complaint at the Malviya Nagar police station when he did not return home till late in the night.
"On Wednesday morning, the family received a phone call from an unknown number and the caller demanded a ransom of Rs 20 lakh for the safe release of Aashish. The police was informed. A man was detained, after the place from where the call was made was identified. However, his questioning did not help much in the case," said a source adding that while the five police teams in Delhi were busy investigating the case, they were informed by their Haryana counterparts that Aashish had been rescued.
Raids were conducted till late in the night to nab the perpetrators. The police suspect role of a person close to victim's family behind the incident.
