Popular hangout of Delhi’s rich and famous, The Olive Bar & Kitchen in Mehrauli was sealed on Friday on the instruction of the Supreme Court-constituted Monitoring Committee. Mediterranean Restobar, fashion boutiques Kimaya and Ayamik, and a spa located in the same complex — One Style Mile — were also sealed.

MCD officials said the restaurant, like several other commercial properties in Mehrauli village, was illegal as village land was meant only for residential purpose.

But Olive’s owner AD Singh said the restaurant was a part of the Sunrydge Heritage, which had requisite clearances from the Delhi Development Authority, Archeological Survey of India and MCD. “We are therefore surprised by the MCD’s action and hope that the matter will be resolved soon,” Singh said in a statement.

“We would be closed for Christmas, but we are trying to make arrangements for alternative space for the New Year’s bash as there is simply too much at stake,” said a management representative of Olive.

Sanjeev Batra of Sunrydge Heritage, which developed One Style Mile, told HT: “One Style Mile has DDA approval for commercial use.”
