Girls on Thursday came out in support of the victim in the Delhi gangrape case. More than 3,000 students from different colleges across the city boycotted the classes in the morning and came on the road to protest against the suspects in the case.
The protesters gathered at Bikram Chowk and marched to Jammu University where they were stopped by security guards on the university’s main gate. Students from the university, who wanted to join the protesters, were not allowed to move out.
“We are very angry and feeling disgusted with what has happened in Delhi. The rapists' should be hanged to death. Girls are not safe anywhere in the country. It’s high time the government takes some serious action against them,” said Komalpreet of Parade College.
Another student, Neha Sehdev, said: "Don’t tell your daughters not to go out. Tell your sons to behave properly. Why do girls have to sacrifice every time? Girls should be given full freedom and strict laws should be made by the government for their safety and security."
“We need to stand for women’s respect and dignity. No men in our society should be given the right to outrage the modesty of any women in our society,” a student, Paramdeep Singh said.
