Tutors and books in jail as well as Hindi translations of all testimonies: These are some of the demands made by the accused in the December 16 Delhi gang rape case.
On Tuesday, Vinay Sharma, one of the accused, asked the judge to go easy on him. Reason: Sharma said he is preparing for the Indian Air Force clerical recruitment test, and hence deserves leniency so he can concentrate on his studies and his career.
Vinay also requested the city court to arrange a tutor and books for him inside the Tihar jail, so he could prepare for the test scheduled April 7. He made the request through an application filed through advocate AP Singh to special judge Yogesh Khanna.
“He wants to appear for the written test as well as other tests, which are mandatory for the recruitment of group C civilian lower divisional clerks in the IAF… The court should direct the jail authorities to provide him with tuition and books required for the examinations” Singh told the court.
Vinay, along with three others, is undergoing trial for raping a 23-year-old girl inside a moving bus. The victim later succumbed to her injuries.

{{/usCountry}}Meanwhile, advocate ML Sharma, who is representing accused Mukesh and Akshay, demanded Hindi translation of testimonies of prosecution witnesses as well as the charge sheet. “I would not examine the witnesses unless the Hindi translation of the testimonies was provided by the police,” Sharma said.
Special prosecutor Dayan Krishnan rubbished the demand, saying the accused were deliberately trying to delay the trial, as 63 witnesses had already been examined and Hindi translations of all testimonies would take time to procure.
The judge reserved the order on Sharma’s plea for March 28.
