The Delhi-Haridwar national highway would be closed for traffic from July 29 to August 8 to ensure smooth movement of 'Kawad' pilgrims from July 27.

A meeting in this regard was held by district authorities of UP and Uttarakhand and it was decided that traffic plying on the Delhi-Haridwar highway would be diverted from July 29 to alternative routes, officials said.

District officials of Haridwar, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Ghaziabad, Baghpat were present in the meeting, they added.
