In a rally at south Delhi’s Dakshinpuri in the Ambedkar Nagar constituency, the Congress vice-president outlined the achievements of the Delhi government and the crucial role played by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

He enumerated the improvements in infrastructure and maintained that the Congress believed in giving rights and power to the people.

“In a way, Delhi is mini-Hindustan. People come here from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Mumbai. My family went from Kashmir to UP and then to Delhi. Sheila Dikshit’s family too made the journey from UP to Delhi,” Rahul said.

Harping on the development model of Delhi, he showered praise on the Delhi chief minister, saying that the infrastructure of Delhi is without match. “Poore Hindustan mai aisa infrastructure nahi hai (No other city in the country has such infrastructure). Sheilaji’s government in the past few years has transformed Delhi. And Opposition leaders, too, accept this,” he added.

In his six-minute-long speech, Rahul attacked the BJP and the Shiv Sena for spreading false propaganda and hatred by harassing migrants, especially in Maharashtra.

He cited the Right to Information Act and Bhagidaari (a programme promoting partnership between people and the government) as the party’s achievements. “The Congress feels that till we give power to the aam aadmi, to women, the city cannot make progress. And in the past 15 years, the Congress government in Delhi and at the Centre has done this. There is talk of corruption. Our government gave you the Right to Information. Now any person in the country can question his government. Our whole philosophy is about rights,” Rahul added.
