Severe beating by a teacher led to a 10-year-old girl sustaining serious injuries in her finger. In fact, the child escaped ampuation of the finger by a whisker.
The girl, Chanchal Rani, was severely beaten up after she scored poor marks in a class test. Rani is a student of Class 5 in a primary MCD school in Rajiv Nagar.
She had scored five marks out of 10 in a Mathematics test due to which her class teacher beat her up. “My class teacher hit me with a stick for scoring less in Maths. He hit me on my fingers, hands, legs and shoulder. Five other girls were also beaten up very badly apart from me,” said Chanchal.
The incident took place on Wednesday and the girl refused to go to school after that.
Two days later, she was down with high temperature followed by a blood clot in her finger. “She had been threatened by the teachers not to complain about them to her parents. They even said if she complained to her parents, her name would be struck off from the school register,” said Chanchal’s mother Aruna Devi, who is a resident of Khajuri Khas in north-east Delhi.
“She kept quiet for two days before confiding in her elder sister. We took her to a doctor yesterday who said her finger was badly injured. He also said had we not taken her to him in time, her condition could have turned worse. We will also lodge a complaint against the school and teachers at Khajuri Khas Police Station. I took my daughter to Jag Pravesh Chandra hospital in Shastri Park but they refused to treat her, saying a police complaint must be lodged first,” she added.

{{/usCountry}}One of the teachers at the school, however, denied all the allegations.
“These allegations are absolutely false. We don’t support beating up students. We may scold them for not doing their work properly or indulging in mischef but we do not hit them. Even her teacher, whom she is referring to cannot beat up students,” said Sapna, who is also a teacher at the school.
The principal of the school couldn’t be contacted despite repeated attempts.
“We are not aware about the incident. But if anything like this has happened in a corporation school, then strict action will be taken against the teachers. We will have to verify everything before taking any action,” said Y S Mann, spokesperson, north civic body.
