Residents were seen buying several varieties of dry fruit here over the weekend.

They said dry fruit, which contained concentrated fruit sugars, rejuvenated them as they were a good source of energy.

"There is a great demand for dry fruit at present, especially from Europe. In Kashmir, the demand is rising as dry fruit serves as a good diet during winter. Dry fruit has a lot of advantages. Walnuts are recommended for curing heart ailments, and if children are given almonds with milk, it protects them from cold and helps them keep warm. Dry fruit also keeps the elderly fit," said Muhammad Shafi, a shopkeeper.

According to experts, dry fruit keeps the body temperature stable and helps the heart to function properly.
