THE WOMEN of Rahul Gandhi Nagar met District Collector Vivek Aggarwal during his visit to the colony under the ‘School Chale Hum’ campaign and demanded for a government school in their colony. The campaign began today.
According to sources, a large number of women accosted Aggarwal during his visit and demanded opening of a school, as there was no school in the area, which has 400 families and about 2,000 people. Most of the residents belong to the lower income group and work as labourers. So they cannot afford to send their children to private schools.
If a government school is opened in the area, pleaded the residents, that they will be able to send their children there. Aggarwal said that a government school up to Class VIII would be opened by next year. He also directed the officials to start the work by completing modalities.
District Education Officer (DEO) Maya Malviya said that there are 400 children in the area. 200 of them attend school, while 14 students are provided non-admissional education. The rest are educated through human development centers, he said further.
