Deogarh stampede: CM Das expresses grief, announces Rs 2 lakh compensation

Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar Das on Monday expressed grief at the death of 11 persons in a stampede in Deogarh. The chief minister has issued directions for better treatment of the injured, an official statement said.

The chief minister has issued directions for better treatment of the injured, an official statement said.

The CM announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of those who died in the stampede. The injured would be given Rs 50,000, the statement added.

Home secretary NN Pandey, additional director general of Police SN Pradhan and other officials have been supervising the rescue operation and treatment of more than 30 persons, the statement said.

The incident occurred around 4 am while the devotees tried to overtake each other, according to Deogarh district deputy commissioner Amit Kumar.

Deograh is around 350 km from Ranchi.
