Fashion is fun and now it is pun. Today, it's about a flight that creativity always stopped short of taking. Welcome to the new, bold world of fashion designers where the overriding feeling is that if you include an element of sex or abuse in your creativity, read designs, it will increase the glam quotient of your product. Well, we are here talking about inspirations, labels and punch lines that make heads turn.
The brandname FCUK (French Connection United Kingdom) is an amusing name in its own and used to the maximum advantage by such fun slogans as 'What the FCUK?' on tshirts and campaigns — one of their old hoardings reads 'night all long FCUK'.
The flavour is not only international. Mumbai-based designer Nisha JamVal has named her latest collection 'Sex with my ex'! She tries to explain why: "I have created this collection for a girl between the age group of 20-30 who is having a physical relationship with her ex." Kolkata's Kiran Uttam Gosh says Vagina Monologues plays her muse for her Spring Summer '06 collection, which expresses on the individuality of women. "It might be a play but also symbolises a movement for women. It is not just about the emancipation of women but also about individualism." Want some more fun? Take a look at designer duo Jiten Thukral and Sumir Thagra's label titled 'Bosedkdesigns' designs and their sub-brand Bagh Bosedk. Ain't that whacky? Keep an eye for their forthcoming label: it only promises to get more naughty with the soon-to-be-launched cosmetic line called 'Rose Mary Marlo'.
Reason for the name? Simple, the content of the cosmetics is going to be rosemary. Now, that's what we say creativity has no limits.
And the designer known for his kitsch style is soon going to launch a men's line called Get Laid by Manish Arora.
