A new trailer comes with confirmation that a limited number of pre-orders for shared-world shooter "Destiny" will confer access privileges to the game's beta testing phase.

The latest trailer for "Destiny" sets up part of the series' storyline, one of reclamation and rediscovery.

Intense interest surrounds the game due to the status of its developer, Bellevue-based Bungie, as creator of the "Halo" series, and publisher Activision, as responsible for the "Call of Duty" series -- two of video gaming's biggest properties in the popular first-person shooter genre.

And in this trailer called "The Moon" we learn that the future Earth's biggest threat comes from not so very far away -- a hidden encampent of invaders-in-waiting, buried beneath the surface, ready to strike at the most opportune moment.

Alongside such reassurances that Bungie is crafting a detailed, historied fiction is evidence of the "Destiny" offering: a team of three players sets off, deep into the moon's tunnels and hollowed vaults, to do battle with various alien enemies.

The "Destiny" beta is tracking for an "early 2014" introduction.
