Devotees take dip at sacred tanks on magi

Thousands of devotees from all over the State thronged Muktsar braving biting cold in early hours today on the eve of Maghi and took bath in the sacred sarovar of historic gurdwara.

Thousands of devotees from all over the State thronged Muktsar braving biting cold in early hours on Tuesday on the eve of Maghi and took bath in the sacred sarovar of historic gurdwara.

People from all walks of life also visited the historic gurdwara Takhtupura in Moga district where three sikh Gurus Guru Nanakdev, Guru Hargobind Singh and Guru Gobind Singh had paid visit.

Later the devotees also visited the gurdwara and paid obeisance and attnded 'kirtans and akhand path bhog' ceremonies.

At Muktsar maghi was celebrated in memory of all those 40 brave sikh soldiers who earlier deserted 10th Sikh Guru, gobind singh at Anandpur Sahib but later joined him at Muktsar where they sacrificed their lives while fighting against the Mughala.

Guru Gobind Singh had himself created all these brave sikhs in 1705 on this day following the lohri.

At Muktsar on Tuesday some political parties are holding their conferences.
