The Tibetan-origin man, who was detained from Norbulingka near the town on suspicion of spying, has been sent to 14-day judicial custody by a local court here.
Penpa Tsering, 32, of Tosra village in Lahari County of Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR) was detained on May 22, following a complaint from secretary, department of security of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), Ngodup Dorjee.
Initially, the police had summoned him for interrogations. Central agencies were also called by the police during the investigation. “Tsering has been sent to the judicial custody. He was produced before the sessions court on Wednesday,” said Mohit Chawla, additional superintendent of police, Kangra.
Tsering was booked under the Foreigners' Registration Act and the Citizenship Act for the document recovered from his possession - an Indian voter ID-card and Aadhaar Card.
Both the documents are registered at Chandni Chowk, Delhi, and bear different names of the holder while the photo was the same.
Meanwhile, sources said intelligence agencies, who interrogated Tsering, would submit their report to the home department of the state and the centre soon.
It is revealed that he was supplying information about the Tibetan government in-exile and NGOs to his handlers in Tibet.
The Tibetan administration had also alleged that Tsering was part of poison terror plot to kill two Tibetan youths living in Dharamsala and was also supplying information about the health condition of Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, to his bosses in Tibet.
