The announcement comes just days after he said he will keep himself off the poll fray.

"One of our candidate Radha Raghavan (who had resigned from the Congress to join our party last year) was to contest. But since she expressed her unwillingness, we decided to exchange her seat with another ally and fight the Koduvally seat ourselves. The entire party wanted me to contest and so I took the decision," Muraleedharan told reporters.

He said a merger of the DIC-K with the Congress after the May 3 polls is not on the agenda now.

"Such things will be taken up at the appropriate time. Now our aim is to work for the victory of the 140 United Democratic Front candidates."

Muraleedharan said he was confident of winning as he was MP of Koduvally (in Kozhikode district) for 13 years and knows the electorate very well.
