Digvijay for probe into Atal's Dawood links

He demanded the probe on Advani and Vajpayee based on charges levelled by BJP's former allies Khurana and Bharti.

AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Sunday mooted an inquiry into serious allegations, levelled by former Delhi chief minister Madan Lal Khurana and Bharatiya Janshakti Founder President Uma Bharti, that senior BJP leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee and LK Advani had links with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

"Both Ms Bharti and Mr Khurana have been associated with the BJP and know more about the matter. However, Ms Bharti has nothing left and is a flop. Legislators are paying scant heed to her and she will re-enter BJP ranks sooner or later," he told reporters.

Accusing Madhya Pradesh's BJP regime of being neck-deep in corruption, the former chief minister referred to a multi-crore petroleum scam, pension scam and irregularities in construction work during Ujjain's Simhastha Mela in 2004.

"No conclusion was arrived at despite information being sought, in the Assembly, over the pension scam and Simhastha probe report. Applications have also been submitted under the Right to Information," he added.

Pointing out that -- during the erstwhile Congress government's tenure -- MLAs annually furnished details of their property, Mr Singh alleged that the practice was not followed even once by BJP ministers over the past three years.

Pointing out that it was imperative to maintain a vigil on SIMI in the wake of the Mumbai transit blasts, Mr Singh felt action ought to be initiated against Bajrang Dal and SIMI.

"The RSS and Bajrang Dal have been manufacturing bombs," he alleged.

Reacting to the working of successive BJP chief ministers Bharti, Babulal Gaur and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Mr Singh described the trio as failures and quipped that a fourth chief minister would also take charge.
