Referring to the killing of 13-year-old Dilshan on Sunday inside the army residential complex, additional director general of police R Sekar said on Thursday: “Nothing definitive can be said about the suspect though we are hopeful of a breakthrough soon.”
“We have examined some 20 people including army officials,” he said, appreciating the cooperation of the army in the investigation.
On Thursday, the crime branch of the Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) examined more witnesses including army men at headquarters but said some progress would be made only after it examined the ballistics report.
“We could make a breakthrough tomorrow or could take some time,” Sekar said.
The army too has started an enquiry on its own and has examined several of its personnel.
Two top army officials are understood to have conducted an examination of the scene of the killing.
“We have thrown open our gates for the police to come and check every nook and crevice and we have given all support on ground,” said Brigadier (Administration) Sashi Nair.

And in any case, in a non-operational area like Chennai, the army has no jurisdiction in cases of rape, murder or culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The local police have the jurisdiction and we are very clear about it and are cooperating in the joint investigations of the unfortunate incident,” the army official said.
