The Nagaland Police have issued a “look out notice” for 12 key suspects of the March 5 lynching of rape accused Syed Sarifuddin Khan in Dimapur town.

Close to midnight on Wednesday, the police released photographs of the 12 people who they said went underground when search operations were launched.

“Based on concrete and credible evidences, these suspects have been identified as being directly involved in the March 5,” a police spokesperson said on Thursday, adding photographs of more members of the lynch mob would be released soon.

Parents of these individuals, students’ unions and village chiefs have been asked to help by providing tips about their whereabouts or by producing them at police stations nearby.

“We have been able to identify some of the ring leaders after examining the evidence. We hope to catch them soon,” inspector general of police Wabang Jamir said.
