As the day of polling is getting closer spokespersons of some prominent political parties especially the bigger ones like the Congress and the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) have expressed grave concern over fairness in the civic polls. They are wary over different tactics to be adopted by some persons of the ruling Samajwadi Party to create disturbances and keep a section of voters at bay from the polling booths in order to facilitate the victory of their candidate.

State president Kisan Khet Avam Mazdoor Congress Abhay Awasthi told HT Allahabad Live that the biggest threat to the party mayoral candidate comes from City West. The area is in the grip of a ruling party MP who manipulates things in his own ways, he alleged. The trick lies in forcing one section of voters in this area into deciding to stay indoors.

And this is easily done, he alleged. Some persons during the last by-elections in which Pooja Pal of the BSP lost by around 14,000 votes exploded bombs at a few places. This was enough to keep one section of voters indoors. The same mechanism may be adopted by these persons this time also, he said, adding if this happens voters of City North and City South will give a befitting reply to this mechanism by turning out to vote in large numbers. This way we hope to cover the deficit of around 15,000 votes in case the game plan of the opponents succeeds.

We shall not allow any rigging or bogus voting at any place and have decided to resist if the same happens.
